This week we talk to Paul from @stonecolddaddy on Instagram who is a stay at home dad. We talk to him about how he started his Instagram account and how he became a stay at home dad, and his feelings about it. Paul suffers from depression and anxiety and has for most of his life, which was a big part of today's conversation. We discuss this in detail and how parenting can sometimes make this more trying, and how Paul copes with it.
Paul talks to us about his history with depression and anxiety, as well as drug and alcohol addiction in his past and his suicide attempt. Paul talked about how he received electroconvulsive therapy to help him with his challenges and due to on going therapy and help, how he's been sober since.
We dive really deep into how Paul copes, the resentment that comes with it, the strength that comes with it and what it takes to overcome it all. We discuss how Paul addresses comments and questions from other people about it. Paul and I talk about how it can be difficult to talk to people and to be vulnerable, especially when people don't understand what you're going through.
We discuss the fact that even though the stigma around mental health still exists, there are lots of outlets available now to discuss these things, and for anyone seeking help, we encourage you to do the same.
Paul also shares with us what his plans are in respect to telling his kids about his past and recovery from his mental health and addiction journey.
