Rou walks further down the hall to try and determine what happened to his friends, falling through the trap in the process. However, he is able to slide down more gracefully and avoid falling into the large pile at the base of the trap. The group lights a few lanterns and discovers they’re in an oubliette, and many other previous victims can be seen in various states of decay. Faerlin, retching at the sight and smell, expresses he’s been misinformed as to the true purpose of the passageway.
They begin searching through the muck in an attempt to find a weakness or hidden exit. Rou notices a loose brick towards the back and works to set it free. They attempt to break through the wall a few times but are unsuccessful until Trix shoots an arrow and makes it explode. To hide their escape from their enemies, Eight summons a silencing barrier before they do so.
The group pushes forward and eventually finds a door with a barred window, where on the other side appears to be the dragon’s sleeping chamber. Faerlin knows they can get out of the passage if they can just sneak by the beast and get to the other side of the room. Their attempt seems successful until Faerlin, who had stayed behind to watch the dragon, calls out for them to run.
They are able to escape, though barely. When the dragon abandons the search, they follow the new path until they find themselves in sunlight. Looking at a cavern below, Eight and Rou recognize the image they saw all those weeks ago in Liam’s manor. The sight of another dragon perched in the distance prompts a revelation from Faerlin, moments before an eerie green light shoots up from the stronghold and a contingent of guards begins marching out the door.

With Tindal gone, Faerlin begins to search for the hidden door within the stone column. Rou and Eight help in the search while Trix is forced to rest and work on bandaging their wounds. Realizing they could make this easier, Eight summons a little dust devil construct to help search and they name it “Back Door Friend”. Meanwhile, Rou climbs up the column to see if there is anything at the top. When he arrives, he finds an abandoned bird nest and takes a moment to admire the view before heading back down.
Back Door Friend finds a hidden crevice and slips into it, removing the blockage to reveal a key. Realizing they can finally help, Trix slowly makes their way over and is able to pick the lock. The column shakes and a door slides sideways to reveal a passageway down. The group makes their way down, abandoning the busted cart, and eventually encounters a series of murals. It doesn’t take them long to figure out the secret to opening them, and two murals pop open to reveal a larger, still dark, passageway. Feeling confident, they continue forward. Suddenly, Rou finds himself alone as the rest of the group - including Bessie and Jimothy - fall through the floor and disappear from sight.

Rou, Trix and Eight are elated to discover Tindal has one of the Seven Swords with him. However, their excitement is short lived when they find out the bracelet has been cursed to be permanently attached to Tindal’s wrist. As further details arise about his predicament, the group realizes it was The Dragon that cursed Tindal. Eight offers to try and break the curse, and as their magic washes over Tindal the bracelet comes loose.
As the bracelet slips off his wrist, Tindal becomes ravenous and tries some bread but he immediately regurgitates. His need to feed overpowers him and he feeds off Eight’s magic, hurting his new friend in the process. Embarrassed and saddened, Tindal races off into the dark desert without Blip. While Trix works to help Eight, Rou grabs Blip and runs off after Tindal. Rou is able to convince Tindal to come back to the group and offers some helpful advice.

The group is weary, beaten down and hungry. Preparations for camp are being made when unexpectedly a Gnome shows up. His name is Tindal and he claims he can eat magic. At first, Eight is worried the bread they conjured has been destroyed but Trix is able to verify it is still tasty. Over a meal of desert fruit, magic bread and overcooked scorpion, they learn about Tindal’s abilities.
He recounts how he came to be a magic eater, how it ostracized him from his family and what his current situation is. When he explains how it seems to be connected to the bracelet he wears, the party realizes that it might be significantly more than just mere jewelry. Their suspicions are confirmed when Rou hears the voice from inside.

The creature chasing Trix and Faerlin has revealed itself to be a giant worm with sharp teeth. As the group engages, they realize that it’s a little hardier than a worm should be and its strikes are even deadlier. Faerlin climbs up the worm to make their attack, which leaves Trix open to attack. It takes the first opportunity to chomp down, enclosing Trix in its jaws.
The group gives the creature everything they have as they try to take it down and eventually are successful. As Trix climbs out of the mouth, they notice Faerlin working hard to remove some of the spikes off its back. Faerlin explains that the spikes are worth a lot of money and he plans to use them to compensate Regi for his service and silence on what he knows. Unfortunately, when Trix tries to help salvage them, they pass out from their wounds.
Eight and Rou are able to revive them enough so they can make it the rest of the way to the bird’s head stone. There they say farewell to Regi, and Faerlin makes a small sacrifice on behalf of Trix.

The group has finally reached the end of the Cragsward Mountain range after a week of travel. Seeing their goal off in the distance, Faerlin pushes the group a little further before suggesting a short break since it’ll be another full day’s travel before they reach the rock that looks like a bird’s skull. Unfortunately, they find their water supplies are gone. Eight is able to conjure water but the sound of it trickling sends Faerlin off into the desert.
When Trix goes to look for them, they find he’s in a sandy pit pulling fruit off a strange green plant. Trix climbs down to assist and when the pair try to leave they discover that something is under the sand. They make a run for it, but the thing chases after them. Sharp spikes are seen popping out of the sand periodically, and it isn’t long before the creature shows itself entirely.

With the scorpions vanquished, the group takes a moment to collect their thoughts. Faerlin is adamant about apologizing to Trix for missing his shot, despite their assurance that they’re not mad. Regi helps Rou carry Eight closer to camp, and the pair work to restore the unconscious construct. Once that is taken care of, Regi turns his sights on Trix and reveals how shocked they are about Trix’s true identity.
Trix admits their relation to the old Emperor, and even shares their true goal of assassinating him. Regi very bluntly points out that chasing the Emperor with little to no equipment, and no money, is a poor decision and admonishes Trix for their lack of planning. Regi and Trix then begin to argue about money, including Faerlin’s compensation as well as Regi’s, which goes nowhere. Things eventually settle down enough for Rou and Faerlin to take up watch once again.

CW: This episode deals with fighting giant scorpions and there are some descriptions in detail of their anatomy. If this would be triggering for you, please skip 31:56 to 32:07, 33:28 to 33:39, 37:04 to 37:32, 47:03 to 47:18 and 53:30 to 54:02. Your safety and enjoyment are important to us.
Trix and Regi’s conversation is interrupted by Faerlin, who has come to take their turn at watch. They sit and carve a piece of wood while Rou tries to ply him with questions. Rou’s curiosity is met with Faerlin’s assurance that he’s not like most servants and is more than capable. They promise Rou that even if they never get paid, he’ll be loyal and will serve Trix so long as it takes, even unto death. When Faerlin leaves to get a higher vantage point, Rou notices Regi has been watching and listening the whole time.
Remembering what Regi had said earlier about dreams, Rou takes a moment to see if he can learn more about the dream that Eight had all those weeks ago. As the conversation continues he realizes perhaps it would be best for Regi and Eight to chat about this directly. When the conversation turns to Regi and Trix’s past, Rou lets Trix’s recent revelation slip and quickly realizes his error. The awkward silence between them is interrupted by a rumble at their feet and the group is forced to deal with one of the desert’s many dangers.

As the ship continues to burn and crumble on the mountainside, Trix introduces Regi to the rest of their current group. In turn, Regi reveals that the mayor from Sparrow’s Landing has put out an open contract for their deaths. He tells them that while she doesn’t plan to go through with the contract now, they warn them that if he doesn’t do something the contract will remain open and will have to deal with worse foes down the road. Eight offers to give him their finger as “proof”, but the party decides they have some time to work out a plan as Regi will need to accompany them for a while before they can leave the desert.
The party, plus Regi, set up camp for the evening. Eight uses some magic to repair most of the damage to the cart before getting instructions on sleeping from Regi. Seeing their excitement to try it out, the rest of the group divides into pairs for watch. Trix and Regi take the first watch, and use the time to catch up on what they’ve been up to since they parted ways. While overall the conversation is pleasant, Trix brings up an uncomfortable and potentially problematic flaw in Eight’s plan to give up a finger.
