Scientist - aka Hopeton Overton Brown - is a recording engineer and producer.

He can take a lovely reggae song and twist it into a whole other science fiction dub universe. His bass textures alone are a thing of wonder - many remixers just turn up the bass but our man Scientist sculpts the sound into something completely new.

Here are some of his best dubs (IMHO), in collaboration with the rock-solid Roots Radics band, featuring Errol Flabba Holt on heavyweight bass and Style Scott (RIP) on drums.

I recommend the album Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of Vampires as a gateway to his music.

If it helps you to find them, the Greensleeves albums have been reissued by VP Records with the name of the producer, Junjo (Lawes) in place of Scientist's. Same music, but the original Greensleeves discs may have better sound quality. You decide!

1  Johnny Osbourne & Papa Tullo - Back Off - Greensleeves 12” GRED 50

2  Radics (vocal by Freddie Mckay) - Beaming - Dub Landing Vol 1 CD - Auralux

3  Errol Flabba Holt - Ark Special - Roots Radics Dub LP Tads (Scientist isn't on this one, liked too much to leave it out).

4  The Mummy's Shroud - Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of Vampires LP – Greensleeves/VP

5  The Corpse Rises - Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of Vampires LP – Greensleeves/VP

6  Your Teeth In My Neck - Scientist Rids The World Of The Evil Curse Of Vampires LP – Greensleeves/VP

7  Johnny Osbourne & Papa Tullo - Trying To Turn Me On  - Greensleeves 12” GRED 60

8  Miss Know It - Dub From The Ghetto CD - Ras

9  Jah Wrote Me A Letter (From Zion) - Dub From The Ghetto CD - Ras

10 Linval Thompson - Pop No Style - Dub From The Ghetto CD - Ras

11 Barry Brown - Girlfriend + Girlfriend In Dub - Barry Brown Showcase LP - Midnight Rock

12 Seventh Dangerous Match - Scientist Wins The World Cup CD – Greensleeves

13 Roots Radics - Craftsman Dub - Greensleeves GRED 50 12” B side

14 Roots Radics - Turn On Dub - Greensleeves GRED 60 12” B side
