Rob Cesternino (@robcesternino) and Akiva Wienerkur (@keev26) need a podcast and every week, Rob and Akiva spin a wheel of listener-submitted podcast ideas, and whatever the wheel lands on is what they podcast about next. This week, Rob and Akiva get freaky!

Get ready for a freaky ride as Akiva Wienerkur and Rob Cesterino dive deep into the world of “Freaky Friday” on their latest podcast episode! This “non-cononical Freaky Friday episode” explores the cinematic universe of body-swapping family fun.

The hosts kick things off by recounting the 2003 original “Freaky Friday” starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan. They cover the mother-daughter duo’s switch after opening magic fortune cookies in Chinatown, leading to hilarious chaos as Lindsay Lohan (in her mom’s body) maxes out credit cards and Jamie Lee Curtis (in her daughter’s body) struggles with high school and a garage rock band. The film culminates in a concert and a wedding, with the switch reversing when understanding is achieved.

Then, they jump into the 2025 sequel, “Freakier Friday,” which features a groundbreaking four-way body switch. Lindsay Lohan’s character is now a music producer with a surfer daughter, and Jamie Lee Curtis is “Gamma Graham”. The new movie addresses problematic Asian representation from the original and introduces a new love interest for Lindsay Lohan, Manny Jasinto. This time, the switch is triggered by a fortune teller and involves all four main characters, leading to a similar journey of self-discovery and family bonding.

Beyond the movies, Rob and Akiva discuss the “freakiest day of the week,” celebrity actors playing characters with their first names, and review listener mailbag ideas for future episodes, including “Robin Keeper Pen Pals” and “Send Tommy Guam Back on the Street”.
