Once upon a time, there was a man who coached the Giants named Ray Handley, and he was terrible at his job. This doesn’t make him unique in the NFL, of course; every franchise can point to its own designated Kotites, Bugels and Shulas (David, that is). Not everyone can be Lombardi, Landry, or Shula (Don, that is) . Of course, Handley wasn’t just terrible at coaching football; he was especially bad at coaching football in a big-city market.

The Giants were 5-3 after their Week 8 bye in 2016, on their way to an 11-5 record and a playoff berth in Ben McAdoo’s first season as coach.

Fast-forward to 2017, and the Giants are an appropriately awful 1-7 at the same point of the season. They’re not close to the same team, and unfortunately, the low point of Sunday’s embarrassing 51-17 home loss to the Rams showed the true colors of McAdoo. He’s not built to last long for Big Blue.

The NFL Players Association has filed an appeal with the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals on behalf of Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliottas he continues to fight his six-game suspension from the NFL over domestic violence allegations. Union lawyers say Elliott’s suspension should be delayed until the court considers the issue. League lawyers had no immediate comment. Judge Katherine Polk Failla on Monday night had denied the NFLPA’s request for a preliminary injunction after hearing arguments from the NFL and NFLPA. Failla, ruling in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, had stayed the decision for 24 hours, allowing Elliott’s side one day to consider appealing, which it did Tuesday. Monday’s ruling would put Elliott’s suspension into effect again, and he would be ineligible to play until the Cowboys’ game against the Oakland Raiders on Dec. 17. Before filing the appeal, the NFLPA filed an emergency motion for an injunction pending appeal with Failla. She denied the motion.
