This week on the podcast we chat with Chicago native and innovator Nashauna Johnson Lenoir. Nashauna moved to Rochester seven years ago seeking a better environment for her kids and looking to be closer to family. She launched Journie Project in Rochester in 2011, establishing an eight-week life skills program for teens in the community.
On the podcast today we talk about:
• The need Nashauna saw in the community for minority youth to feel included, especially those not involved with sports.
• The need for mentorship for our youth.
• The launch of Journie Project through the Boys & Girls Club in 2011, which was based off an award Nashauna created when she was just eleven years old.
• Educational topics covered during Journie Project, including Relations & Relationships, Law & Legal Rights, and Money Management.
• How the program connects teens to lifelong mentors.
• An upcoming information session for Journie Project on December 20th.
• How Nashauna transformed her experience as a young girl, especially through UCAN in Chicago, to build Journie Project.
• The value of giving back.
• How Nashauna works with local youth through her music business, JT Music, to provide a platform for kids to build their skills and gain event experience.
• Special musical guest Storm!
