Nathan pursued the dream of becoming a Royal Canadian Mounted Police Member at the age of 21. The realities of the career began what Nathan called " a slow death of a thousand cuts". Within the span of his career, Nathan grappled with PTSD and addiction.
The rigors of the job, along with hypermasculinity within the culture of policing made asking for help when he needed it most both challenging and shaming. He balanced medication, therapy, treatment, the uprooting of childhood trauma and his career until something had to give.
