  • As God Sees (1 Samuel 10:21-24)
Studies have shown we are generally more likely to trust the people we find
attractive or have a “presence” about them. Those who “look the part” are
more likely to receive our listening ears, our votes, our willingness to
hire them, and our delegation of important roles to them. 1 Samuel
highlights how the Israelites, including the prophet Samuel, fall into the
trap of relying on the data their eyes are receiving. But God has a strong
message about the reliability of our eyes in making value judgments. We
    explore and apply.

  • Resident Aliens (1 Peter 2:9-17)
The Christian model for relationship with civil government is actually
based on the experience of exile of the Jewish people. So what does being
“Resident Aliens” mean for our understanding of citizenship and political
engagement? We ask some of those exiles and listen to the wisdom of 1 Peter
    2.

  • Three Men and a Savior (Acts 9:22-28)
Jesus creates unlikely friendships. He was the reason these men were
enemies. And then He became the reason they were friends. We examine the
relationships between Paul, Barnabas, and John Mark to see what we learn
about Christian friendship, especially what it is capable of enduring.

  • The Groaning of Creation (Romans 8:14-30)
God’s creation is good. But it is not at rest. It is fallen. And it is
groaning. We too groan within it, longing for something more, longing for a
state like Eden without the curse of sin and death which affects all
creation. Romans 8 helps us make sense of history and God’s redemptive plan
by viewing it all through the lens of the resurrection - Phase 1 with Jesus
and Phase 2 still in our future.
