In 2019 the psychological thriller Joker took the world by storm. A self-contained film, it told the story of Arthur Fleck and his lonely descent into madness. When a sequel was announced, it raised the question of, where exactly would the story go?

Chris Hemsworth's action movie Extraction was one of the first films we reviewed way back in 2020. It was a good movie with a great car chase that showcased director Sam Hargraves impeccable knowledge of stunt direction. The show has (rightfully) gained in popularity, and people are tuning in to see a town, slowly but surely, unravelling as the characters begin to buckle under the pressure of being trapped and tormented by an unknown horror.

As we try to work out what is happening, we look to mythology and ponder philosophical questions about free will and parallel realities. We ask, what are the true origins of the creatures haunting the woods, and could the town be a labyrinthine purgatory? As we anticipate the cliff hanger's fallout, we share our speculation about where the plot might head in season three.

It's very reminiscent of a show like Lost but with a tighter script and genre wise, it’s a horror series, with a mystery at its core and hints of science fiction (maybe). The show if full of intricate plot twists, suspenseful cliff hangers, and has a standout performance by Harold Perrineau as the formidable Boyd Stevens.

We do our best to unravel the show's mysteries — such as the cryptic lighthouse, the ominous horn sound, and the enigmatic figures in white — and we indulge in speculative theories about the town's true nature. Is it a supernatural experiment, an alien simulation, or something else entirely?
