  • 700 Roleplay Rescue Evolved
This is Season Seven, Episode Zero. Roleplay Rescue has been around for a while now and has a large back catalogue of episodes ripe for the eating. In this episode, I want to do two things: I want to talk about the birth and genesis of Season 7. I also want to evolve the purpose of our podcast. Thanks to Frank Turfler, Gavyn Upham, and Arlen Walker for the call-ins. • Dungeon Master's Diary #43: Of Harn, Orcs, a TPK, and Discovering the Otherworld

This is the last Dungeon Master’s Diary of Season 6. Usually the DMD is a Wednesday bonus episode and features me, a microphone, and whatever gaming-related nonsense flows from my mind. This is recorded in short snippets throughout the week and then roughly edited together to form a diary of one man’s  journey in gaming, shared week-by-week. It’s raw, glaringly personal, and not everyone’s cup of tea. Going forward, the DMD will become a bi-weekly journal and move to a Saturday. It seemed appropriate to let you know. Hope you don't mind.

Thanks to Jason C for the call-in. Game on!

  • 613 Responses to Daniel Jones (Season 6 Finale)

Herein lies an important announcement! For starters, this is the end of Season Six. But there's more to tell you...

Today's episode is an off-the-cuff round-up of just some of the call-ins I have received following the release of my interview with Daniel Jones on Otherworld Immersion. The response has been overwhelming and I am just presenting part of the larger picture. Big thanks today to all the callers: Andy Goodman, Arlen Walker, Evil Jeff, Tim Shorts, Jason Connerley, and Barney. Thanks also to my special guest caller, Daniel Jones himself. What more can I say? This is the end. But I hope it's not The End.

    Game on!

  • Dungeon Master's Diary #42: Making Time and a Mykovnian Discovery

The Roleplay Rescue Dungeon Master’s Diary is the Wednesday bonus episode and features me, a microphone, and whatever gaming-related nonsense flows from my mind. This is recorded in short snippets throughout the week and then roughly edited together to form a diary of one man’s  journey in gaming, shared week-by-week. It’s raw, glaringly personal, and not everyone’s cup of tea. This week I have been thinking deeply about my Otherworld, Mykovnia, and trying to make space in my schedule for a more focused hobby. • 612 Talking Numenera with Dave Aldridge

This episode we are joined by my good Anchorite friend and fellow podcaster, Dave Aldridge of the dpercentile podcast. This episode claims a few firsts on Roleplay Rescue, being the first interview recorded using Zoom and also the first interview which is being shared in two parts. The focus of this first part is upon Dave’s experiences with Numenera and why he considers it a great game from which to learn a more freeform style of play. The second part, in which we discuss what Numenera has taught him as a GM, will be released on Dave’s own podcast, dpercentile. It is in the spirit of collaboration that we bring you this conversation that I think we both enjoyed sharing.

Many thanks to Dave for agreeing to do this with me!

  • Dungeon Master's Diary #41: Back to School, Slowing, and Questioning Methodology

This week is possibly the shortest episode ever: I have been busy returning to work and intent on slowing down. Hope you can make some sense of this one.

Thanks to Jason C for the call-in.  Game on!

  • 611 Otherworld Immersion with Daniel Jones

Daniel Jones is a self-confessed IT nerd and the man behind the Eudaimonic Geekery blog, musing on the Art of RPGs. He describes himself as an Idea-Tinkerer, sharing an interest in writing and philosophy with far more followers than I could dream of - probably because he’s a published novelist (aka Daniel Ionson). Daniel hails from forest-filled southern Indiana where he is working on his beloved Primaeval Fantasy RPG.

Many thanks to Daniel for agreeing to come and talk to me about Otherworld Immersion - a concept and phrase I fully intend to steal from him. Game on!

  • 610 Still Playing Too Seriously

Time to catch up on the call-ins and share the amazingly supportive words shared by listeners from around the world. I also talk briefly about the direction the show has taken recently, my worries about too many long interview episodes, and the decision to simply roll with it. These are tough times but I am immensely grateful to all the great folk who have given their time to talk to Roleplay Rescue. Thank you to you too - the listener - for tuning in one more time. Game on!

Thanks to Colin Green, Lonely Adventurer, Menion aka Rob, Josh Beckelheimer, and John from Tale of the Manticore - great stuff!
