Precious seconds are ticking away rapidly and Rokain, Ygin and Xelas must think quickly. Optimism says they can surely both stop Tilly and save Remaria, and Experience hasn’t yet taught them there’s advantages in numbers which means it’s time to split the party. Ygin needs to hurry though Remaria’s house is strangely conveniently close; Rokain discovers Xelas doesn’t understand the concept of a chain of command; Tilly finds it easy to smack these ‘heroes’ around; and as for Remaria, time is shortest for her of them all.

You know what the storybooks never mention legendary heroes having to do? Attending an autopsy, which is something Xelas, Rokain and Ygin could’ve quite happily continued their lives without. But being sick has its benefits, even if Xelas has to fake it, and that’s the chance to poke around Tilly’s office. Was it truly a ploy to gain the coroner’s job or does Tilly have something else up her devious sleeve? The heroes have a choice they must make and the clock is ticking against them.

After a frustratingly uninformative night, split paths and party members reconvene at the totally legit, absolutely not a front, and shockingly rat-free Inn (complimentary coffee included; petting the cat not guaranteed). Together again, and with Rokain playing up the family name, it’s back to what’s left of the casino for a chat with the deputy constable and an interesting discovery.

The trail to finding the culprit behind the attack at the casino has branched quickly. From Kayleigh’s mother, who’s clouded memory is a suspicious sign, to a very charming tiefling who runs a snorkeling business, and even to the potential next constable to-be, it’s quite the web of suspects the heroes must unravel. Unbeknownst to Ygin and Xelas, Rokain has another pressing matter on his mind too. As the web grows, each must find a path to follow.

Miraculously, Kayleigh, the waitress the heroes met shortly after entering the casino, survived the attack. With her safely in her house and Rokain 'watching' her, Ygin and Xelas head for the dubiously-named Clammy Hand bar in search of Kayleigh's mother. Finally on a trail and hopefully headed for answers, they forget something has been on their tail as well. Rokain better shake off his existential horror quickly if he's to have any hope of saving Kayleigh and himself.

Kaxus’ vague instructions has led to predictable results: the heroes scratching their heads and uncertain of what to do next. There’s a lot to look at inside the Beza Casino and even more people to talk to. If they can figure out just who they should talk to and how to ask questions without coming across as utter weirdos. It’s a high bar for Xelas and Rokain. Ygin, not so much. Maybe a couple of rounds of blackjack will give them the answers they need.
