After 10 months of adventures, betrayals, Void corruption, and impossible odds, the Outworlders are finally nearing the end of their journey through Season One of Roll4Real.
In this special update episode, I talk a bit about the production of the show, the road to the Season One finale, and reveal what listeners can expect in the months ahead. From our upcoming seasonal break and the launch of our Patreon, to chaotic one-shots and brand new exclusive content, there’s a lot coming for the world of Roll4Real.
I also dive into listener questions surrounding some of the biggest mysteries in the series so far, including Andrew’s increasingly dark path, the terrifying truth behind Shaunus’ growing powers, Grant’s mysterious Golden Werewolf transformation, and the looming importance of the other missing Outworlders still trapped somewhere in Zumundo.
The episode also teases Return to Zumundo, our upcoming Call of Cthulhu miniseries set back in the real world after the DragonCon incident, where cosmic horror, conspiracies, and hidden forces begin to reveal the true scale of what’s happening beyond the veil.
And finally, I preview the massive two-part Season One finale: an epic battle years in the making that will feature guest performers, huge revelations, and consequences that will shape the future of Roll4Real moving into Season Two.
The end of Season One is almost here… and the story is only getting bigger.
In this special bonus-content episode of Roll4Real, Doolin sits down one-on-one with Mike to discuss the unexpected rise of one of Season 1’s most unforgettable characters: Captain Rhys Quinn.
Originally introduced as little more than a passing joke, a deliberate parody inspired by Captain Quint from Jaws as the Outworlders journeyed down the dangerous Wyrmstooth River while hunted by the terrifying river beast known as The Tanari, Rhys Quinn was never intended to leave an impact on the story. He was designed to fill a role for a few sessions and disappear into the background of the story.
Instead, something unexpected happened.
Through improvisation, character chemistry, and the natural evolution that only tabletop storytelling can create, Quinn transformed from a throwaway NPC into one of the emotional cornerstones of the season. What began as a humorous homage slowly unfolded into a layered character with a tragic history deeply intertwined with the ancient lore of Zumundo itself.
Doolin and Mike explore how necessity at the table forced the story to adapt in real time, ultimately creating one of the richest narrative threads of Season One. The episode dives into the behind-the-scenes decisions that expanded Quinn’s role, the collaborative storytelling that shaped his arc, and the performance moments that elevated him to a hero whose choices permanently altered the course of the campaign.
From parody… to presence. This is the story behind Captain Rhys Quinn.

Though the Outworlders have finally reached the legendary dwarven city of stone and fire, their journey is far from over. Beyond its towering forges and iron gates lies the next ascent: the climb toward Mount Vel’Drahn, where they hope to uncover a path back home.
But the air has grown heavier. Something unseen watches them... Andrew in particular. Andrew now stands at the center of an impossible choice: one debt, long promised, now demanded in full. He can collect on what is owed… or refuse, and risk Shaunus becoming the price instead.
Meanwhile, Captain Quinn must come to terms with the truth and make a choice of his own. And what is the cost of a life versus the corruption of one's soul?

Under the cold glow of moonlight, the Wyrmstooth River becomes a battlefield.
After days of silent pursuit, the Tanari finally strikes... its presence erupting from the darkness and forcing the Outworlders into a desperate fight for survival. With nowhere to run and the river hemming them in, steel, spell, and instinct are pushed to their limits as the crew struggles to hold the line against a relentless, otherworldly threat.
As the battle rages, Captain Quinn is forced to confront the weight of his past and the debts he can no longer outrun.
And in the chaos, little Shaunus, the lone survivor of Maplewood, reveals a power no one expected… and no one fully understands.
What begins as a fight for survival may leave far deeper scars, as the line between salvation and something far more dangerous begins to blur.

Gravewake is behind them, but some curses it seems can be traded for others.
With Borrik the dwarven miner rescued and the river pulling them ever closer to Valkaar, the Outworlders and Captain Quinn press on down the Wyrmstooth toward answers, or something far worse. Something... or someone is watching.
The Tanari is patient. It has been waiting many years for Quinn's return. And for Quinn, the past he thought he escaped is finally catching up. The scars, the loss, the thing that took everything from him... this isn't over yet.
As Quinn steels himself for revenge, the beast prepares to finish what it started.
Some things you can’t outrun. And some things we carry downriver.

The Outworlders’ journey toward the great river city of Valkaar takes a dark turn when they arrive in Gravewake, an abandoned mining hamlet cursed so deeply that nothing.... dead or alive ever leaves.
With their path forward blocked, the party is forced into the depths of an abandoned mine where the world itself seems broken. Tunnels twist in impossible directions, gravity can’t be trusted, and the ghosts of dead miners wander the halls, restless and demanding peace.
If the Outworlders want to escape Gravewake and continue their journey, they’ll have to navigate a place where the rules of physics no longer apply… and where a single wrong step could mean the end of the road.

After leaving Brookhaven behind, the Outworlders take to the Wyrmstooth River alongside their newest ally, Captain Rhys Quinn. But this trade route has been abandoned for years... ever since whispers began of the Tanari, a mysterious river beast that turned safe passage into a gamble with the unknown. As civilization fades into the distance on the journey toward Valkaar, secrets surface. The Outworlders must finally explain who and what they are… while Quinn is forced to confront his own ties to the Void... and to young Shaunus. And the river itself isn’t the only threat. The Murkmantle Wilds have reclaimed these waters, and something is watching from the canopy above.
Creator's note regarding this episode: This was the episode was my first, and final attempt with the experiment of stripping every number from combat and turning into a solely into a narrative. After some feedback from this and consideration, I have since not removed mechanic numbers from any other combat that takes following this episode.
In the year 887 of the Third Age of Zumundo, the island nation of Eletar vanished. Every city, ship, and soul. Gone without wreckage, survivors, or explanation.
For twenty years, the world has called it a mystery.
But a few know the truth.
And one man knows more than most. Rhys Quinn.
Because he was there.
Before he was a captain, he was just a deckhand aboard the LNS Radiance the day the sea swallowed a kingdom.
In this flashback episode, we sail into the heart of the cataclysm that reshaped Zumundo, witness the moment Eletar was lost to history, and uncover how the endless war between the Bloodfang Clan and the Luminary Order is tied to what happened in that storm.

With Roll4Real Studio temporarily under renovation, Doolin calls for a well-earned short rest from the main campaign. In this special mid-season recap, he sits down with Ian (Andrew), Amanda (Lilith), Stubbs (Alex), and newest party member Mike (Captain Quinn) to reflect on the journey so far and look ahead to what’s coming next. Also, we're on the YouTubes for this one! Yes, technically ever episode is on YouTube, but they're audio only. You can finally see the faces behind the voices. (see YouTube link from our page)
Spoiler warning for Episodes 1–15
Stubbs opens up about Alex’s powerful sacrifice and what it meant both in-character and at the table. Amanda dives into Lilith’s adoptive role as Shaunus' mother and how that connection could ripple through the story moving forward. Mike shares what it’s been like stepping into the campaign as Captain Quinn, going from fan of Roll4Real to full-fledged adventurer traveling alongside the Outworlders.
The party also speculates wildly (and recklessly) about the road ahead: unresolved mysteries, lingering consequences, and the questions that will shape the next chapter of the campaign.
New to Roll4Real but intimidated by jumping in at Episode 1? This episode is the perfect entry point. Catch up on the story, meet the players, and get ready for what awaits beyond the crossroads.

Lumina’s Day dawns cold over Brookhaven... and with it comes a reckoning.
As war drums echo through the snow, Freddy Theodore Watkins must stand alone against Gorath, the Bloodfang War Chief, and the warband poised to burn the halfling village to the ground. Wearing the face of Roscoe Toscobble, Freddy is forced to confront not only a brutal foe, but the doubts and insecurities he’s carried his entire life. For the people of Brookhaven, he must be their hero, whether he believes he deserves the title or not.
As the dust settles, a new ally emerges. Rhys Quinn, a retired and reluctant riverboat captain, agrees to ferry the party down the dangerous Wyrmstooth River toward Mount Vel’Drahn. But the river is cursed by a deadly monster, and Quinn himself may be hiding more than just old scars.
And in the quiet aftermath of battle, amid lantern light and falling snow, Lilith faces a heartbreaking choice. In a village that feels safe, for now, she must say farewell to Shaunus, leaving behind the child she’s sworn to protect.
