Today, on RWMSF, I talked with Matt Rickman and his work at Camp ASCCA.

Matt Rickman is the Camp Director at Easter seals Camp ASCCA (Alabama’s Special Camp for Children and Adults). It is an accessible, inclusive year-round facility that provides recreation and camping opportunities for children and adults with intellectual and/or physical disabilities. Camp ASCCA is known throughout the USA as a leader in camping for people with disabilities. Matt received his degree from the University of West Georgia in Therapeutic Recreation. He has over 23 years of camping experience working with people of all ages with various disabilities and has worked full-time at the camp since 1999 and has been the Camp Director since 2004. His wife Dana also works at the camp as the Director of Marketing and Communications. Matt has been instrumental in the design and construction of several innovative camp facilities and has constructed various adaptive high and low ropes course elements for Camp ASCCA. In 2003, Mr. Rickman received a merit award in Therapeutic Recreation from the Alabama Recreation and Parks Association. He has presented at conferences for the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), Alabama Recreation and Parks Association (ARPA), American Alliance for Health Physical Education Recreation and Dance (AAHPERD), as well as many Universities, schools, churches, parent groups, civic organizations and businesses. In 2014, he was selected to speak at the Beijing Sport University in China as one of the United States foremost experts in recreation and camping for people with disabilities. // To learn more about Easter seals Camp ASCCA, visit the website at www.campascca.org.

Today, on RWMSF, I talked with Weston Jenkins about his foundation, Disabled Outdoorsman USA, and his cousin, TJ. TJ was born with shins muscular dystrophy which has left him in a chair and on oxygen. Hunting and doing everyday life things with TJ made Weston want to start Disable Outdoorsman USA and has changed not only TJ's life, but other children's lives as well.
