In our continued study of Paul's epistle to the Romans, we will now examine the relationship between God's law and man's sin. These verses provide great insight into both the purpose of the law and the sinful nature's response to it.

n our previous studies through Romans chapter 6, we learned how believers are dead to sin and alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Paul established that we are no longer under the dominion of sin, but rather under grace. As we begin to make our way through Romans chapter 7, Paul continues this thread by addressing another authority from which believers have been liberated – the law itself.

Romans 7:1-3 establishes the fundamental principle that governs every believer's relationship to the Mosaic Law, using a universally understood illustration from marriage law to demonstrate how death alone can legally dissolve binding relationships. This passage serves as the foundation for understanding our complete freedom from law's dominion through our death with Christ, while simultaneously honoring the law's righteous requirements.

The eternal verity of Romans 6:23 pierces the soul like a flaming arrow: "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." This godly ultimatum leaves no middle ground-every heartbeat, every breath, every moment of consciousness hurtles toward one of two eternities. The church's failure to proclaim sin's wages with urgency has lulled multitudes into spiritual complacency. Today, we sound the alarm with unflinching clarity: sin's paycheck is eternal death, and its payment is irrevocable.
