The title Messiah means the anointed one, and throughout history, the Jewish people desperately awaited a deliverer who would free them from oppression. When Jesus arrived claiming to be the Messiah, He offered something completely different than expected. Instead of conquering enemies through force, Jesus demonstrated love for them. Rather than seeking power, He came to serve and give His life as a ransom. His mission was to heal, not harm, fulfilling Old Testament prophecies about bringing good news to the poor and freedom to captives. As believers, we are also anointed to continue this work of love, service, healing, and reconciliation in our world today.
