Publisher's Summary:
Daisy has more toys than she knows what to do with. In this story, inspired by an Eastern European folktale about a house that's too small, Daisy thinks she needs a bigger bedroom for all the gifts on her birthday list. Her clever mom helps her realize less is more, and Daisy decides to donate many of her things to a Mitzvah Day rummage sale. In the process, Daisy learns about sharing and the satisfaction that comes from choosing what's important.

So disappointing!
I loved the description of this book and bought it without reading it. Big mistake! Daisy's mom in the story comes across as a cruel bully, letting her daughter collect bruises on her legs to teach her a lesson (that takes Daisy an unrealistically long time to learn...) At the end, she even has her daughter convinced that she should give away all of her own birthday gifts. If you are looking for a book that teaches Jewish values, (like kindness or compassion) this is not it. There are more subtle ways to help your child learn a lesson and certainly other ways to do mitzvot without having your child give away all of her birthday presents. Poor Daisy!
Daisy begins to understand that less is more -- and that the things she no longer wants may well be useful to others
As a picture book, this is delightful, and as a cautionary tale about hoarding, it's highly instructive: Daisy thinks her room is too small but in fact, she just has too much stuff (a common problem nowadays). When her mother helps her to see that she isn't using even half of the possessions she can't bear to part with, Daisy begins to understand that less is more -- and that the things she no longer wants may well be useful to others. An important lesson for kids and grownups, too!
Charming & instructive!
Anyone - parent, child or childless adult - who's ever dealt with a surfeit of stuff will find a kindred spirit in Daisy, who, with the help of her wise and patient mother, spends the weeks leading up to her birthday party and its impending gift haul internalizing the lesson that less can be more. Waldman and Feutl have concocted a winner with this contemporary interpretation of a Jewish folktale. Revell's illustrations are delightful, right down to the stuff-inflicted bruises Daisy acquires tripping over the contents of her room. Children as young as 4 will relate to Daisy's dilemma, but this is one that will resonate with children - and clutterbugs - of all ages.

This book is a delight. Cindy Revell's bright and bouncy illustrations provide the perfect visuals for this tale of a girl learning that more is not always better. Kudos to authors Rita Feutl & Debby Waldman for creating a model parent in a few short passages: a woman who gives her daughter the space to learn a lesson on her own, without preaching or lecturing. Very well done.
