Why Attending This Meeting is Important

Relocation of Baptist Hospital devastated nearby Black-owned businesses, many of which were forced to close. 

The Area Median Income (AMI) around the old site is significantly lower than in the downtown. Developer (Paces Foundation) has not released rent estimates or voucher acceptance plans, suggesting rents may exceed what local residents can afford. I am still waiting on every single record pertaining to the site to be emailed to me.

Without inclusive eligibility rules and right-of-return guarantees, redevelopment of the Old Baptist Hospital site risks replicating past displacement under the label of revitalization.

Here’s what was on the table: a $15-million resolution to reallocate Westside CRA money, the very tax dollars collected from our neighborhoods, to demolish and redevelop the old Baptist Hospital site.
