Episode 13: Let Him Serve You First: You Can't Give Away What You Don't Have
This summer, I learned a hard lesson in my lavender field. I had replaced nearly eighty plants in the spring — healthy, thriving starts from a trusted grower. I cared for them, watered them, and watched them take root. But when harvest season hit, life got busy.
At first, the plants were fine… until the rain stopped, the heat spiked, and I realized too late that their green had turned gray. All the potential blooms were gone — not because I didn’t care, but because I never slowed down long enough to give them what they needed to live.
That morning, as I stood looking at those withered stems, I sensed the Lord whisper:
"This is what happens when you try to pour out without letting Me fill you first." In this episode, I share what that moment taught me about spiritual rest, why letting Jesus “serve” us first isn’t selfish, and how we can live from overflow instead of exhaustion. We’ll also explore how this truth shows up in Scripture — from the Last Supper to the Good Shepherd’s care.
If you’ve been running on empty, I pray this conversation encourages you to slow down, receive from Him, and find joy again in serving others.
