Roots Radio

Roots Radio is a bi-monthly conversation about soccer, art, culture, and community that takes an inside look at the birth and growth of a brand new pro soccer team through the eyes of the players, workers, and fans. In this series we explore the impact of the ‘beautiful game’ by crossing different boundaries around the world and talking to special guests from the worlds of politics, media, sports, and social activism. Episode ‘Truth’ features a conversation with Grammy-nominated MC and Oakland hip-hop legend Lateef the Truthspeaker, who is not only a prolific solo artist, but also as a member of some of the most eclectic and superstar groups to come out of the Bay Area. Lateef tells us about his history coming up in Oakland as a rapper and social activist, his love of soccer and picks some of his favorite tracks. Each episode we’ll also feature opportunities to learn about and support community impact and small businesses in Oakland.
