  • RTK: Can the Chiefs defense keep making miracles?
On this episode of the Roughing the Kicker Chiefs podcast, Joshua Brisco breaks down the Chiefs’ miracle win in Carolina and looks ahead to try to get a feel for Sunday’s matchup against the Buccaneers.

The Chiefs defense has been making statements for weeks now. Ever since the bye week, they’ve linked together dominant performances every week. 10 points to the Raiders, 21 to the Saints, 14 to the Colts, 14 to the Jaguars, and now 17 to the Panthers. But on Sunday, the defense was also the best offense, as gamebreaking plays by Eric Berry and Marcus Peters gave the Chiefs a win when the offense couldn’t find points on its own.

Now, as the Chiefs prepare for Jameis Winston and the Buccaneers, will the defense be able to stand up the the challenge again, and will Alex Smith and the offense get out of its rut to help the Chiefs climb to 8-2 and the top of the AFC?

  • RTK: Chiefs squeak by Jags, how to hold up in Carolina, 11/9/16
On this episode of the Roughing the Kicker podcast, Joshua Brisco breaks down the Kansas City Chiefs' victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars and previews Sunday's game between the Chiefs and the Carolina Panthers.

The Chiefs' quarterback controversy died an appropriately bloody death against the Jaguars, but will the return of Alex Smith be enough for the offense to rebound before heading to Carolina?

Dee Ford is third in the NFL in sacks. Is his growth legitimate? Where does he go from here, and what happens when Justin Houston returns?

Steven Nelson and Ramik Wilson have grown to be quiet stars at the core of the Chiefs' young defense. How far can the D carry the 2016 Chiefs?

What can we really learn from the win against the Jaguars, and what will it take to beat the Panthers on Sunday?

All of that and much more on this episode of Roughing the Kicker.

  • RTK: Don't overlook the Jaguars, do embrace optimism, 11/4/16
On this episode of the Roughing the Kicker Chiefs podcast, Joshua Brisco previews the Chiefs-Jaguars game and explains his newfound optimism for the future of the 2016 Chiefs.

Andy Reid showed great strides last week in his best coaching performance of the year. As long as his scheming was a product of a new focus, not just a product of the Colts’ sorry defense, the Chiefs offense is going to continue to thrive in 2016.

The defense has also found its identity. A top-10 defense with Phillip Gaines healthy and a top-5 defense when Justin Houston returns, I have a new optimism on both sides of the football.

As for the Jaguars, the Chiefs will win by more than the Vegas point spread as long as they continue to exploit the weaknesses that the Jags have already shown this season.

  • RTK: Chiefs dominate Colts, Foles vs. Smith, Charles to IR, 11/2/16
On this episode of the Roughing the Kicker Chiefs podcast, Joshua Brisco talks about the Chiefs’ victory over the Indianapolis Colts and the tidal wave of news and questions from the last few days.

Nick Foles is getting the start on Sunday, even though Alex Smith passed the concussion protocol. Are the Chiefs indulging a quarterback controversy?

Jamaal Charles is headed back to the IR for the second straight season. Will the rest of the league ever appreciate his greatness? Will he return to a Chiefs uniform ever again?

The Chiefs have dominated three top-10 offenses in a row. Is the defense for real?

Parker Ehinger is also out for the season. Can Zach Fulton step in and keep the Chiefs’ offensive line rolling?

How have Eric Fisher and Mitchell Schwartz been performing in pass protection? One stat argues that they’re both at the top of the league.

Has Dee Ford finally made the jump?

How will the Chiefs’ running back depth change without Jamaal Charles and, potentially, without Spencer Ware?

  • RTK: Time for the Chiefs to exorcise Colt demons, 10/28/16
On this episode of the Roughing the Kicker Chiefs podcast, Joshua Brisco previews the Kansas City Chiefs' task in Indianapolis when they take on Andrew Luck and the Colts.

Amidst all of the injuries and depth chart changes, the Chiefs have beaten two teams with strong offenses and anemic defenses in the last two weeks, so why shouldn’t Kansas City be prepared for Andrew Luck and a sloppy Colts defense?

Dealing with the questionable status of Phillip Gaines and DJ White’s broken hand, the secondary continues to become more and more broken. How will the Chiefs stop T.Y. Hilton and the Colts offense if they have to present a patchwork secondary on Sunday?

After recording the show, Jamaal Charles was ruled out for the game. Is Spencer Ware versatile enough to carry the whole load?

As we sit just days away from Halloween, the Chiefs finally have a chance to exorcise the demons of Lucas Oil Stadium and to finally get a treat in Indy.

  • RTK: The Chiefs have not arrived, but they're on the way, 10/25/16
On this episode of the Roughing the Kicker Chiefs podcast, Joshua Brisco breaks down the Chiefs' victory over the New Orleans Saints.

In a game that brought a valuable home victory, the Chiefs had a lot to be happy about. But a few surprising miscues left the game feeling incomplete.

The Chiefs desperately need the return of Phillip Gaines to be swift and soon. Andy Reid cannot be trusted to call plays on third-and-short. The Chiefs' defense is better than any of us expected it to be.

But now, after all of this, where do the Chiefs sit in the AFC? As risers, but not top-tier contenders. ...Yet.

  • RTK: Chiefs must control the pace vs. Saints, 10/21/16
On this episode of the Roughing the Kicker Chiefs podcast, Joshua Brisco previews Sunday’s matchup between the Kansas CIty Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints.

What will it take for the Chiefs to exploit the Saints’ atrocious defense? Can the Chiefs’ beaten-up defense hold on against the high-flying New Orleans offense led by Drew Brees? What can we learn from the Saints’ recent past to help give the Chiefs the brightest future?

Plus, the latest news and speculation about Justin Houston, Phillip Gaines and Jamaal Charles.

  • RTK: Win over Raiders is the first step in right direction, 10/19/16
On this episode of the Roughing the Kicker Chiefs podcast, Joshua Brisco recaps the Chiefs’ convincing win over the Oakland Raiders and breaks down the latest news about Justin Houston, Allen Bailey, Justin March-Lillard, Phillip Gaines and Knile Davis.

With Bailey and March-Lillard out for the year and Gaines being a major question mark, several young and inexperienced Chiefs are going to have to step up on the defensive side of the ball. On the other side of the team, Andy Reid and the offense made strides over the bye week, as Reid committed to the ground game and let Alex Smith take some deep shots against the Raiders.

For all of the good that came in Oakland on Sunday, it will all be lost in the grand story of the season if the Chiefs become complacent and let this be their best effort of the year. Now, the Chiefs must continue to build.

  • RTK: Can it be a "must-win" game in week six? 10/14/16
On this episode of the Roughing the Kicker Chiefs podast, Joshua Brisco previews Sunday's matchup in the Black Hole when the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Oakland Raiders. Calling a week six game a "must-win" may be too strong, but it certainly is a crossroad game for the Chiefs. Currently a team with no particular identity, whatever Kansas City does in Oakland on Sunday is going to be what the team actually is. There will be no excuses for whatever happens next. The Chiefs are about to show the world what they can accomplish this season.
