'Round the Cauldron

Announcement: I will be taking a break from the podcast for at least two months (March and April 2021) and possibly longer.

What do you think of when you hear the term “love spell”? Do you imagine a witch sitting in their room, writing down the traits they desire in a partner? Do you picture the scene from Practical Magic where little Sally Owens creates a love spell called Amas Veritas, dreaming up a man that doesn’t exist, so she’ll never die of a broken heart? Do you think of love potions and magical desire from unsuspecting partners? But what happens when you start to get deep into love magic? Can you take things too far? And are there things you shouldn’t do when it comes to love spells?

What's it like pagan parenting? As a practicing witch and pagan, I am often asked how I maintain my practice with kids. Do I include my daughter? Does she stay out of it? Her father and I discussed this when I was pregnant, and even though I am pagan, my parenting isn't necessarily "pagan".

So, how do I navigate parenting while pagan and practicing witchcraft? And what do I teach my daughter? Find out!

Sitting down to chat with M.A. Phillips was like chatting with an old friend! If you follow me anywhere on social media, you'll know that I am in love with her book series. Today, we talked about the inspiration behind her book, how her path influences her writing, and being a modern Druid writing about a modern Druid!

"M. A. Phillips is a writer and fabric artist in Northern NY. She lives with her husband, daughter, and three lazy cats. She fell in love with writing and sewing at a young age thanks to her encouraging, creative family. Over the years, she’s made various plushies and fabric art dolls who have found homes on bookshelves and altars around the United States. Mythology, folklore, and the landscape are her primary inspirations."

Did you know that there is a place for witchcraft within Christianity? There is an entire community of Christian witches out there and they have one foot in each path. Sometimes it can be ostracizing to be an "outsider" in both areas of your practice, but today, I sit down with Asacia and Kat as we discuss their personal path in Christian witchcraft.

There is a particular article and study that I was looking for to reference this, but I CANNOT find it, so here's a different one instead.

There's a new year and it is time to set our spiritual goals for 2021! I'd love to hear how you set your goals and if you have any goals for 2021 that you'd like to share!

S.M.A.R.T. Goal Method: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/smart-goals

Setting goals for your spiritual practice are extremely important, in my opinion, for good spiritual growth. These goals can be for witchcraft, paganism, or any other sort of spiritual practice. Setting spiritual goals is a good way to track your growth as a witch, come up with new ideas for your practice, and make sure you're on track for learning new things (if you want to!).

~ Note to Self ~  "What is my purpose in life?" I asked the void.

"What if I told you that you fulfilled it when you took an extra hour to talk to that kid about his life?" said the voice. "Or when you paid for that young couple in the restaurant? Or when you saved that dog in traffic? Or when you tied your father's shoes for him?"

"Your problem is that you equate your purpose with goal-based achievement. The Universe isn't interested in your achievements...just your heart. When you choose to act out of kindness, compassion and love, you are already aligned with your true purpose.

No need to look any further!"

Signs and omens are commonly talked about in witchcraft and pagan communities, but is it really a sign? Is it really an omen? Or is it just a mundane occurrence?

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion, but I think 9 times out of 10, that animal crossing your path is random. Those numbers may just be random. I think we're too quick to call random occurrences signs just because it's what we want. Deities and other spirits have many ways of communicating with us. Signs and omens can -- and do -- happen, just not as often as the internet might have you believe.

Are deities dangerous to work with? The answer is simple but often not one that a lot of people want to hear.

Note: The background noise in this episode gets weird at the end so I hope it isn't too hard to understand.

Working with and honoring deities isn't inherently dangerous, but there are some ground rules that should be followed when approaching Them from a polytheistic perspective. The Gods can and will mess with your life if you're not respectful, and not all Gods are fuzzy and soft and full of love. Some will turn your life upside down to teach you a lesson.   As long as you approach a deity with respect and reverence, you aren't necessarily in any danger at all.
