As a sport psychology expert and Olympic medalist in rowing, Kirsten Barnes really knows her stuff! She graduated from University of Victoria, Canada in 1993 and then completed a PhD in sport psychology at University of Bristol, UK in 1998. She competed for Canada at the 1988 and 1992 Olympic Games. She is a double Olympic Gold Medalist from the 1992 Games and World Champion in 1991 at the Rowing World Championships in both the 4- and 8+.
Since then Kirsten has returned to Vancouver using her experience as an athlete and sports psychologist. She has worked with many sports organisations including the English Squash and Rugby Football unions, the British Triathlon and the Badminton Association of England. She has also been the sport psychologist for the Commonwealth Games Council for England, providing support to the headquarters staff, team management and athletes in preparation for and during the 2002, 2006 and 2010 Commonwealth Games.
