hi everybody welcome to royal clarence radio um fresh from royal clarence marina now as is usual for this time of year one has to have the windows open and a blue bottle has moved in and my cat romeo is um you see you're eyeing a chop so if you hear a kerfuffle it's because the very lazy cat has finally decided to make itself worthwhile and catch the blue bottle we shall listen out now what's been going on well actually quite a lot i'm i've had my complaining head on um i don't know if you know if you're new to god support or you may have heard because we've been in the newspaper when the press and media about um our local hospital it's called the war memorial which is under investigation because nearly 700 elderly patients were have been perceived to have had their lives ended early but probably by a procedural um campaign uh to drug them uh on inappropriate drugs and sort of kill them off um i mean it's the stuff of films isn't it it seems surely that can't have happened however the evidence is mounting anyway that's by the bye but my mother who's an elder and she's approaching her octogenarian um decade and last week she had to go for a blood test and the nurse i'm not going to knock nhs stuff obviously i'm not but you know when something happens to a member of your family and you don't agree with it you really do have to make a stand and you know that of course there are going to be bad people um in the medical profession of course there are we all know remember shipment for example um anyway um mother is very slight she's very slim she's uh just five foot on an inch or so um if that i mean she may have shrunk oh i hope she doesn't hear um anyway she went for a blood test and the nurse was very very brusque aggressive hurt her

tried one arm and said the you know the vein had collapsed and sort of blamed my mother really my mother felt like she was being blamed let's turn that around you know if you're making somebody feel a certain way i think you need to address that as a problem whether you meant it or not you know especially if you're in the nursing profession or a caring profession you know it's sort of um you need that empathy certainly um anyway the vein collapsed and she had to try another arm and then um mother was told that she'd be very badly bruised the next day and you know sent on her way with no kindness or consideration or aftercare or advice on you know how to handle things so i was very annoyed actually about it so i'm not really um i'm more interested in the procedure actually what happened next the procedure in this town we live in a place called gosport as i said and the procedure for complaining is not completely non-existent there was no avenue for any complaints procedure i was completely and utterly um in put sent in circles on the internet round and round in circles for well over an hour looking for ways that i could possibly complain because of course you know once you start leaving complaints in the distant past it's difficult to remember things you can't remember the dates or the times or um you know the also the anger wanes a bit doesn't it i mean you need to do these things well you know while you're on top form when you've got all the facts in front of you it it just happened and you're feeling enraged by it you know you haven't been softened by time we all get softened by a bit of time um anyway i i ended up complaining finally i i managed to get a complaints uh sort of funnel if you like but it was to the wrong surgery it was to stoke road in chester or somewhere and i got a reply back days later from them saying you've come through to the wrong um stoke road surgery you need the one in gospel i thought well they must have heard of us um or because you know how would they know unless there are only two or perhaps it happens a lot who knows um but there are...

New Recording Fancy Dress Goodwood Revival Beethoven and The Girls in the Trenches.
hello darlings i will keep this brief because my voice is going but one perseveres one carries on regardless now then i have been working very hard last few days getting my costume ready for goodwood revival which is in a couple of weeks um the my tickets are booked for the 18th i'm going with my daughter she's going dressed in 50s forward slash 60s sort of crossover and my grandson also i think he's going to wear he's only three he's going to wear a leather jacket and uh slicked back hair absolutely fabulous is that going to be and there will be photographs of course all over my blog now i have a fancy dress shop here in the marina which is really useful actually because anytime i need to do anything go anywhere i just look on my rails so sort of cheating but i thought no i'm not going to go as a land girl which is the sort of go-to if you don't have much time stick a pair of overalls on and a head scarf and there we go costume done and there's quite a few military um costumes as well a lot of the gents dress in military outfits and i guess you can hire them um but uh i'm i'm going all out i really am so i'm going sort of 30s forward slash 40s crossover but a bit movie star so i've been for slaving over the internet finding my props and unfortunately i already had quite a few things so i'm very excited very excited about goodwood revival and maybe see you there actually sold out on the saturday i know um i think a couple of weeks ago they had uh thursday and sunday available so um see if we can get some i don't know if they're selling you know tickets out so doing their thing um but nobody's getting hold of my tickets that's for sure i'm very excited about it um now then i've also had my copyright strike lifted from the beethoven which is wonderful it means we can play the entire collection the entire beethoven collection um which i'm just absolutely thrilled about this is it was recorded in 1968 i think and um so it's got that lovely crackly feel and i'm also going to uh serialize um the red cross british girls the british red cross girls in the trenches book because it had such good uh feedback yesterday when i played the first chapter so let's get on um this is the second chapter different kinds of courage the books by margaret founder cooks in the public domain and um chap just chapter two followed by the sonata number 25 in g major op 79 um by the wonderful everlasting always always treasured beethoven of course i'm sure you know that um enjoy darlings and i'll be back tomorrow voice permission let's see it may be that the voice does not permit but we can live in hope chapter 2 of the red cross girls in the british trenches this is a librivox recording all librivox recordings are in the public domain for more information or to volunteer please visit librivox.org read by tr love of pleasant hill california the red cross girls in the british trenches by margaret vandercook chapter 2 different kinds of courage

hello gorgeous people of the internet did you hear romeo then that's my cat the studio cat crying anyway welcome to royal clarence radio and um what a week i've been ill of course i had a suspected covid which just turned out to be a dramatic cold nothing more nothing less now then we're going to really have to look after ourselves because over these last uh months you know this last 18 months none of us have been getting out and about and we've haven't built up any immunity so we're bound to be getting all sorts of curls and fluid things so i do hope you're all going to drink lots of special teas that uh fight against infections and things like that but you know we can't stay in you know we one has to socialize one has to get on with life and the temptation to stay in forever is of course great when you think um you know of all the diseases you can get but one can't do that one can't do that and i'm certainly not going to do that so hopefully this is my first and last cold of the season um anyway what else has been happening well it was a drama getting the covert test done but mother has graciously um managed to accumulate 20 tester kits and they're taking over the drawing room now they're just everywhere and um well it saves doing the whole postbox thing you know because that was a bit of a drama so i didn't enjoy that um other news well i've got a very special day today because sunday and i always always always without fail have a special big large fat sunday lunch at mother's i was just thinking there you know it's something to really look forward to isn't it a big sunday roast that you don't have to cook i mean i'd never cook it for myself so i'm looking forward to that later now what have i got for you i've got as you know i'm a cellist and i've got a track called beautiful dreamer which is my cello and some drums and i thought i'd play that for you so it's very short no words the lyrics are actually beautiful but it's written by stephen foster it's been sung by a lot of very famous people um but i can't sing darlings so it's just an instrumental but then after that i've got an excerpt for you it's just the first chapter and it's a book called the red cross girls in the british trenches by margaret van der kook so it's just chapter one and it's 15 minutes or so it's a narration it's a free audio book and i thought i'll serialize it over the coming weeks and i i've got a lot of archival material actually as you probably know by now and i think it's really interesting just to sit back and have a listen so i hope you enjoy and i do hope you're getting a big sunday roast as well and um well i'll be back tomorrow no doubt with uh more of the same you know me it just goes on and on and on

welcome listeners to royal clarence radio i'm having a sort of slow lazy morning i hope you are too not too much rushing around it's the rushing around that stresses one isn't it now then i've just had notice from alva valley now there's a facebook page called the alpha valley it's really useful if you're into nature walks um a little bit curious about the you know your surroundings in gosport um join their facebook page give them a like um now they've suggested a walk tomorrow a wednesday wonder in the wild grounds 8 p.m till uh sorry 6 p.m till 8 pm um i'll read a loosely guided walk in the reserve to see what can be found in this haven for wildlife how exciting now unfortunately they're only taking the first 15 so it may well be overbooked already but i'll give you the email grange gospel dot gov dot uk okay it's two pounds for adults and 150 for concessions not too bad um now i really recommend that you get yourself along to alva valley it's absolutely incredible and it's right on our doorstep and it's quite a nice contrast actually to the marina because the mirroring is very watery and very yachty and alva valley is you're immersed absolutely immersed in the countryside and it's very very much um a haven for wildlife in fact and you you know there are darks a little dark pond lots of grassland lots of wildflowers um and lots of insects it's a great place to take the dog as well but please you know be careful of leads etc um so i have a little uh like of their page on facebook and you'll obviously get updates although i think things might be a little bit tight in terms of you know getting on these walks but you don't need to be on an official walk you do in i think the certain parts of it you need to be um some sort of permit or something but most of it's free access and it's absolutely um inspiring you know artistically it's very inspiring um so what else this vehicle rally in family day which is on the 30th now i doubt you'll have trouble getting into this one pound entry for adults and 50p for children two pounds for family not bad is it and um there's all cars and motorcycles a petting farm i assume that's animals not um joe from the office um interactive big noise samba band now i don't know what interactive means does that mean you can get up and sing who knows who knows darlings face painting painting toboggan ride food and drink offs and um a display of electric motorcycles oh i quite like to look at that actually i might go along and maybe do a little interview for the radio station that'd be...

hello wonderful people of the internet welcome to royal clearance radio it's a beautiful sunny day it's a monday morning i'm fresh fresh fresh as a daisy and i hope you are too now i'm going to feature something today a little bit more energetic than the beethoven that we did last night at bedtime remember i do a bedtime broadcast as well and i thought we're going to do something a little bit punky and this is by a local artist he goes by the name of the full short and his name's greg and he's wonderful what's exciting about greg i thought or interesting is that he recorded his entire album in a converted world war ii bunker at the bottom of his garden how cool is that and it just goes to show actually that um you know we're all about recycling and good can come from bad because i'm sure it was a petrifying place originally when it was first built it's quite interesting because all of the marina here at royal clarence is a converted royal navy depot we've got the vitulas where the food was made and we've got these massive ovens it's now a restaurant and a bistro and we've got engine rooms we've got a pump house and all these things have been converted into offices eateries and apartments we have very swanky wonderful apartments looking over all the yachts and everything and i love it when you walk around you really feel the history of it all it's it's wonderfully um nostalgic even if you're you know you're never in the navy what have you it's you can feel the the sense of it and actually i remember when i first moved in i had no internet for you know what it's like when you first moved into a property and i had to stay in for a delivery of a bed and so i'd had no phone calls i had no internet i had no phone signal and though it seemed very quiet um there were fewer homes it's about four or five years ago and uh anyway i came out of my apartment and i was going walking across the marina uh the car park that used to be very much a part of raw clarence yard and there was some helicopters above navy helicopters and i i wondered actually if we were at war it was very very odd just because of the sense of it you know it's changing a bit now it feels a bit more lived in we've got a lot more people around but there are a lot of holiday homes here and some parts of the year it does feel a little isolated and it can be a bit eerie sometimes if if you just don't see anyone i went for a jog recently actually and uh i was trying to shed a few pounds after lockdown and i'll get up really really early because i didn't want to see anyone you know didn't have my eyebrows on and uh ill-fitting bras here and i went for a jog needless to say i bumped into two or...

hello darlings welcome to royal clarence radio i'm feeling rather chill a little delicate i won't lie and the reason i'm a little delicate is because yesterday i took my wonderful mother to a new venue actually very close to the marina just across the millennium bridge there um called the powder monkey tap house and it's affiliated with a brewery they say they do their own you know concoctions i'm not sure how all that beer stuff works because we were straight on the vino and a lovely lovely bottle of white um which was affordable and um their shots were rather pricey and they didn't do an irish coffee which was um rather uh of shock to one system so i had to buy my own whiskey and pour it into my coffee because they couldn't seem to manage that i have no idea why but they're very new now that's not what's the most exciting thing about it the most exciting thing about this venue is that it's set in the explosion museum of naval firepower yes it's inside a museum but it's in the open air so you have these sort of rambling grounds there's a field and they had live bands and music everyone was dancing it's a bit of a festival atmosphere and i know they've got another festival thing coming up in october so i will let you know all about that um so consequently it's because it's set in this environment of of navy um firepower there are these gigantic huge structures and and one looks at them and isn't quite sure what they are um they're huge fallacies and i think they were they're guns that were once on ships and submarines and things like that needless to say we stuck mother on them and took lots of photographs it was a bit like you know um being on a family outing actually but of course we'd had a few so it was a one of those a bit a little bit like a wedding i suppose anyway it was super super fun and it was an absolutely charming environment and i liked it because it was very family friendly but there were a lot of older people there as well which i just found really refreshing lots of older attractive men and funnily enough a man came approached my mother and he was 72 and he almost immediately asked mother her age which was i thought was a bit odd but it turns out he's a photographer and he was very pleased that she was 78 and he wanted to take photographs of her can you imagine she was secretly uh devastated obviously on the surface but secretly very very pleased um i don't think she's going to take him up on his offer but he wrote out a card and everything by hand and presented it to her with his phone number and uh how exciting how exciting and i think if she'd said that she was 95 he'd have been even more pleased um however she has no intention of launching a glamour model career at the ripe old age of 78. so but that was a bit of fun and we had an absolutely wonderful time now listen don't eat there maybe because the food was disgusting um i was some sort of hot dog but um it literally felt like it had been rolled around the carpet a few times um it's a completely tasteless and a funny texture so uh i'd avoid the hot dogs i don't know what the other food the other food on the menu was like because we just went for the hot dogs and it wasn't very cheap either so but that's my my review as as it stands now i have a wonderful wonderful tune for you today it is um a 19 it's a 1920s recording so this is taken from a 78 old vinyl 78 it's the courthouse blues by the amazing and talented blue singer clara smith and i think you're going to really really enjoy this hey
