With a career that technically began with writing his first song at 8, teaching himself to play the piano and guitar, and writing 10 songs a day even when living in his car for 9 months, Ivory Scott has curated his experiences to sonically provide a glimpse of his story from his worldview as a 6’4 young black man from Chicago.

Ivory has already left an indelible mark on the music world as a songwriter, crafting timeless songs and collaborating with some of the industry's biggest names like Beyonce, Lil Baby, Madonna, Ed Sheeran, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, and an endless list of your favorite artists. But now, Ivory Scott aims to captivate an audience with his own voice instead of behind the scenes. He has just released the first project of his own, produced by his close friend Hitmaka, entitled Before Ebony, comprised of four beautiful creations ft. Eric Bellinger, Queen Naija, and Sukihana.

This epsisode, I had the chance to speak with someone from my own original hometown, Brownsville, PA, about this scary fact and what it means for artists especially. @agbGreen is a bi-coastal artist who fans and critics alike compare to a "Rod Wave type" sound. Why is "hometown hero" such a bad thing? Shouldn't we be praising and supporting those who rise above the hometown mentality? In our case, this includes drug and alcohol addiction, domestic violence, drama, neglect and more.

Shortly after working on The Selena Gomez Documentary, "My Mind & Me," Brandy Menefee attended a Hollywood Mental Health Summit where we met and were destined to share our stories with eachother. After inquiring into what she "does," I discovered a job title that I had never heard of before and realize that it may very well be one of the most important in the industry -- a "Mental Health Story Teller." We learned at the summit how important sharing our stories is to the community, especially in entertainment where children and people of all ages need to find people who resonate with them and represent the issues they are also experiencing on screen, in books and online. Storytelling encourages compassion and empathy and uses our creative thinking and helps us reach out to people who are too afraid to speak up about their mental health, and Brandy is one of the great souls who gets to help creatives tell their stories in the most powerful and impactful ways.
