Clearing the lines of communication are great to keep wires from being crossed, but what happens when someone starts to tell more, and more... and even more information that should be learned IC and not spewed out in great detail in a tell. Especially, when you will then have to find out IC later anyway, because now you know the information, but the character doesn't!
