In this episode of RSQY, host Jonathan Chicquette and guest Jen Jacobson talk about motivational interviewing and how it can help improve communication. Motivational interviewing is a set of tools developed by two doctors in New Mexico that focuses on open-ended questions, affirmation, reflection, and summary. The goal is to trust and believe that the person being spoken to has everything they need and is the expert in themselves. In addition, we address ambivalence, techniques for clarifying goals, and helping people move forward instead of staying stuck in conflict or tension.
What are some scenarios where you have felt stuck or conflicted and could apply these tools for better communication?
