Friend of the podcast Kim Thompson and Techno DJ by the name of spcl.k returns to the podcast to talk DeepTech, house music, and.....Northwestern Football?

Turns out Kim is a former Northwestern University football player.

Tunde sat down with his good friend Kim to talk about the ongoing hazing scandal that struck the Northwestern football team last summer, ultimately leading to the firing of 17-year head coach Pat Fitzgerald. Let's just say Kim is not unfamiliar with some of the hazing allegations being levied.

Tune in to hear Kim's perspective.

A conversation with DKT.

Darrick, Kalo, and Tunde are psychologists (in-training) in Boston. In this episode they discuss a talk they attended in Brockton, MA, by school psychologist Dr. Umar Johnson. Dr. Umar is a firebrand commentator on social and political issues, trained in the assessment and treatment of children in school settings, and the self-proclaimed Prince of Pan-Africanism. His voice and perspectives are well underrepresented in mainstream psychology, but he's found a way to be heard. DKT reflect on Umar's comments and discuss their own experiences as underrepresented minorities working in the mental health field.

FAAX is the new acronym signifying an emerging public health concern - fentanyl adulterated or associated with xylazine.

The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy declared fentanyl adulterated with xylazine an emerging threat on April 12, 2023.

I mean, just look at some of the damage it can do - https://www.nejm.org/na101/home/literatum/publisher/mms/journals/content/nejm/0/nejm.ahead-of-print/nejmp2303120/20230426/images/img_medium/nejmp2303120_f2.jpeg

One of our co-hosts, Herschel Skywalker, works at the CDC and has been researching this emerging threat for a few years. Herschel and Tune to the Moon discuss this and whether fentanyl should be considered a matter of biochemical warfare. Sounds farfetched but there have been talks in congress about designating fentanyl a WMD 😬😬

The pandemic is waning but overdose deaths are still a massive public health crisis. Xylazine is ramping it up in ways we couldn't have predicted.

We are living in a golden age of scam.

Or, according to actor Ben McKenzie and journalist Jacob Silverman, in their upcoming book Easy Money, a golden age of fraud.

Be it fraud or scam - the point is that deception will take you far in the world today. The election of George Santos to congress is a perfect example of this. The downfall of SBF, founder and former CEO of FTX, is another glearing example of the heights (and depths) scam and deception will take you in the world today.

Deception, unfortunately, is a valuable social currency.

#rtbth discusses the #goldenageofscam with first time guest of the podcast Okechi Okoroafor, financial analyst and graduate of NYU Stern Business School, and creator of the blog budgetunconscious.com.

#rtbth introduces a new segment to the podcast - Social Dilemmas.

The concept came up when discussing in the group chat the Theranos scandal and Elizabeth Holmes' sentencing. Some of us think it's pretty harsh - imagine being put in prison for 11 years for lying (perpetually) to a bunch of rich old white men seduced by a charismatic young (college dropout) fake genius. Holmes wasn't convicted of fraud to consumers - for providing false readings of blood tests. She was only convicted of defrauding investors.

Some of us think the proper punishment for Holmes and similar egregious fraudsters who induce this level of societal harm is .... the death penalty.

The social dilemma? - Is prison right/fair for a non-violent criminal whose crime is mostly lying to a bunch of rich, powerful people? Or is the societal harm caused by fraud at this level so damaging that the only option is to (gulp) eliminate the fraudster? Given the recent revelations of the massive fraud committed by former CEO of FTX, SBF, the discussion is rather salient.
