How my fiancé's dark humor led to a discovery that would eventually change the trajectory of our lives. In 2015 I was out of work, almost out of money, and I was seriously wondering if I’d ever get another paycheck from the oil and gas industry. I moved half-way across the country on three days’ notice and lived alone in a one-bedroom apartment in west Texas just to stay in the oil industry. The only piece of mail that I received in 6 months was an invitation to my own wedding with a note that read “Hope you can make it!”
