At this time when nations are in turmoil, and Russia has acted in such ways as to make itself an all but complete pariah among them, it is precious to pray for God's work and will to be done in that vast country.

Praise to God in the highest!

Bless us, O Father:

praise to you!

Guide and prosper the nations,

rulers, and peoples:

2 May the truth in its beauty

flourish triumphant:

May the mills bring us bread, for

food and for giving:

The scale of the depradations and sufferings in Ukraine has been astonishing as the result of Putin's invasion. These are offerings to help us keep all the citizens who are grieving at losing homes, families and loved ones as a result of the war.

The suffering is by no means all one way. Whole Russian brigades have simply ceased to exist as a result of being wiped out in a war that they are not allowed to report to friends and family back home on pain of imprisonment. Could anything be more soul destroying? They too are bearing an immense cost. May the Lord meet with many on both sides of this demonically-inspired conflict.

Can I suggest listening to the following as a piece of music and praying for as many dimensions to this whole conflict as come to mind?

Then, when you have listened and prayed, hear it again in the next track called Russian Hymn with Words, in which it is revealed as an old Russian hymn from more stable times.

Many years ago, as a young Christian, the Lord gave me this lovely song, reassuring me of His constant watchfulness and presence. I used to sing it to the community I was part of in Oxford. I recorded it some years ago with Janey Petterson, and now, because I woke up this morning ‘hearing’ it in my heart, have finally mustered the courage to release it. I hope it will bless you, and perhaps play its small part in the ‘foundations’ of our trust in the Lord’s care and watchfulness over us all!
