U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio met with NATO foreign ministers in Helsingborg, Sweden, to ease severe confusion sparked by contradictory military commands from President Donald Trump regarding U.S. troop levels in Europe. 

During the tense summit, Rubio sought to reassure allies of Washington’s foundational commitment to collective defense. However, he delivered a blunt warning that the overall American military footprint on the continent is destined to shrink. He noted that future troop levels will directly depend on the financial and military contributions of European nations themselves
