Sermon preached at Redeemer Burlington on August 4, 2013.
In Psalm 131, there are three verses and three lessons that pop from the page:
Sermon preached at Redeemer Burlington on July 28, 2013.
We live in a beautiful-but-broken world: a world where good things fall apart. Knowing this, we are looking for something or someone to make us feel safe and secure. God is our rock, fortress, refuge and salvation. We can rest secure in Him. Why? Because He took on flesh to save us.
Sermon preached at New Haven United Reformed Church on June 23, 2013.
The heavens declare the glory of God--they show us the work of His hands--but it is the Law that opens up the door to God's heart. The law shows us the purity of God's heart as well as the problems with our own. This psalm ends on a note of praise, not despair, because King David, the psalmist, knows who God is: He is Yahweh: our Creator as well as our Redeemer.
