While doing a brief cardio workout with weight may make sense, in order to build strength, it certainly would NOT make sense to run a marathon with weights on our hands and legs.  In fact, long-distance runners need to run as unencumbered as possible.


And the same is true for us as believers.  We need to set aside EVERY single weight that might hinder us in our race with Christ.


Hebrews 12:1-3:

Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the [a]author and [b]finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.


A believer needs to do three specific things to run effectively:

1- lay aside every weight and sin that ensnares,

2- run with endurance, and

3- look unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith!
