  • Ep 24: What an AI job agent can and can't tell you

An AI job agent can find more roles in a minute than you can in a month. Some will even introduce you to the hiring manager. So why are people sending more applications than ever and hearing back less?

Because when sending costs nothing, sending stops meaning anything. The applications that still land are the ones somebody chose.

In this episode, Bradley walks through four things an agent can tell you, and five it can't. It can match your resume to a posting. It can't tell you if the pay clears your floor, if the seat is really open, or if the job is worth the next three years of your life. Those calls are still yours.

    You'll hear:
    • The three lines to write down before you open any agent or job board
    • How to confirm a posting is real before you spend an hour on it
    • Why "good match" and "worth it" are two different scores
    • What to read before anything goes out in your name
    • The simple log that shows you which sources actually get replies

  • Ep 23: Ninety applications and two replies

You rewrote the summary. Tightened the bullets. Sent another forty. Still nothing.

This episode is the arithmetic that explains it, and it is not about your resume.

Greenhouse publishes a benchmark report off its own applicant tracking data. Between 2022 and 2025, applications per job went from 116 to 244. Over the same three years the average recruiting team went from 10.4 people to 4.6. Applications per recruiter went from 146 to 746. Time to fill went from 43.6 days to 59.7, which puts the middle of the market close to nine weeks.

Twice the applications. Half the people left to read them.

And yet the jobs did not disappear. The Bureau of Labor Statistics put openings at 7.4 million in June 2026 against 7.1 million unemployed, a ratio that has held at roughly one to one since February 2025. The openings exist. The capacity to read applications does not.

    In this episode:

Why week two of silence is almost never a rejection, and what nine weeks to fill actually means for your follow up.

The six different things silence can mean. The search has not finished. It went to someone already known. The seat was never live. Your file was never classified. You missed a stated requirement. The application had no owner. Four of the six have nothing to do with you, and they look identical from the outside.

Why volume is the symptom rather than the fix. Silence gives you no feedback, so you cannot tell a good application from a bad one, so the only lever left is more.

How to make your own record answer the question no employer will. Four fields per application, two follow up dates set the day you apply, and a habit of reading your own sheet every fifth application instead of opening another job board.

What this will not tell you, said plainly, including which of the six you got on any single application. Nobody can tell you that.

Ninety applications with nothing back is not a verdict on you. It is an unread signal, and the work is making it readable.

  • Ep 22: The Job Search Changed. The Strategy Didn't.

Send more applications. Tailor faster. Get your resume past the scanner. That advice was built for a market where applying took effort and a posting usually meant a job.

Both of those things changed. One click applications and instant tailoring dropped the cost of applying close to zero, so volume went up across the board. Postings stopped mapping cleanly to open work: reposts, pipeline builds, requisitions left up for months, listings with no pay band and a date from last spring. The result is that any single application is worth less than it used to be, and more of them land on nothing at all.

This episode works through what the labor data can and cannot tell you about that, including where the widely quoted openings to hires gap gets stretched past what it measures. Then it looks at what the shift means in practice: which listings deserve an hour, which deserve a pass, and how to tell the difference before you rewrite a resume instead of after.

The conclusion is not to try harder. It is that the input worth managing changed, and the strategy has not caught up.

  • Bonus - The Ghost Job Problem: Reading the Market Signal, Not the Noise

Why do up to one in three online job listings seem to lead nowhere? In this special bonus episode, we move past online outrage to examine the structural reality behind the modern ghost job phenomenon. We analyze Bureau of Labor Statistics data revealing a persistent 2.2 million position gap between monthly job openings and actual hires, unpacking why low-cost applicant tracking systems, budget lags, and public sector posting rules create an overwhelming flood of labor market noise. Shifting from aggregate statistics to a practical operator's view, this episode provides job seekers with actionable strategies to stop burning evenings on inactive listings and start targeting high-signal opportunities:

Understanding the Vacancy Gap: Why unfilled postings persist due to evergreen ATS listings, internal candidate benchmarking, and market-scanning postings.

The 8 Ghost Job Signals: How to evaluate listing age, unstated salary bands, template job descriptions, and unverified recruiter posts.

The Golden Verification Step: Why checking an opening directly on an employer’s official careers page is the single most reliable test of liveness.

Introducing Rolespect: A step-by-step walkthrough of Rolespect (formerly the Job Scout Builder). Discover how its Scout and Decide stations verify listing authenticity, score ghost risk, and deliver clear verdicts—Apply, Investigate First, or Pass—entirely within your browser without requiring fees, accounts, or cloud server uploads.
