A question I am often asked by patients presenting with an Achilles tendon injury is, “Will my tendon snap if I keep running on it?” In fact fear of Achilles tendon rupture is one of the main reasons that active people stop exercising after an Achilles tendon injury. But are those fears justified? As always, it is helpful to look at the facts to find out what the risk factors are for rupture of the Achilles tendon.
Repetitive strain injuries are the most common type of injury in running. The nature of running is repetitive involving a similar footstrike pattern over time and distance. This repetitive strain to the musculoskeletal system can increase the risk of injury over time and distance. In this episode I outline 5 tips to help you avoid getting a repetitive strain injury.
