Elizabeth Davis is an USU - Kane County Extension Associate Director and County Director. Elizabeth joins Rural for Rural to discuss how USU implemented STEM activities in 4-H programming in rural Kane County. Elizabeth shares success stories from the program, how the program came to be, and how local community members and kids can get involved. Elizabeth also shares how additional rural communities could start similar programming.

In this episode, we are joined by Melissa Veater. Melissa Veater is a licensed prevention specialist for the state of Utah and has been working in prevention for Southwest Behavioral Health Center for almost 20 years. Melissa joins Rural for Rural to discuss how Southwest Behavioral Health Center has been striving to de-stigmatize mental health in rural Utah. She also shares how prevention efforts have been helping in rural communities. Melissa also shares resources on where rural Utah community members can get mental healthcare and prevention access.

Dr. Benjamin Chan and Kylie Christensen, directors of the Rural and Underserved Utah Training Experience (RUUTE) Program join us to discuss how UUSOM is working on addressing the physician shortage happening in Utah and the Intermountain West. They discuss the RUUTE Program and share how future and prospective students can get involved in RUUTE or strive to become future rural providers.

Danielle Howa - Pendergrass joins us and speaks to us about her clinic, Eastern Utah Women's Health in Price Utah. She shares how she became a rural women's health provider and how she started her clinic. Danielle shares what resources her clinic offers, such as women's health, LGBTQ+ care, transgender affirming care and more. Danielle also discusses her teens teaching teens program in Carbon County which is sex ed taught by teens to other teens.

In this episode, we are joined by Dr. Stephanie Lyden. Stephanie Lyden is a stroke neurologist at the University of Utah. She has an interest in developing ways to improve access to specialty care in rural settings and likes the idea of using new technology, such as telemedicine, to help achieve this. Dr. Lyden shares information regarding how telehealth works and where people can find resources regarding telehealth.
