Democrat Ian Calderon is pushing a bill through the assembly that will bar waiters from giving customers plastic straws in restaurants unless a customer asks for one. Violation of the law results in a 1000 dollar fine and 6 months in jail. Calderon says that single use plastic straws are a big problem for the environment and landfills.
