  • S2 E8: Summer Dating Update

Caroline from Season 1 Episode 17 is back for a repeat engagement with RBL. She and Samantha are both on the dating apps this summer and we talk about how it’s going and what we're afraid of. We also focus on The Burned Haystack Dating Method ™ (BHDM) and the varying degrees to which they are employing the method.  BHDM is a method for women (who date men and are looking for a relationship on the dating apps), that claims to result in better quality

(and likely far fewer) dates. BHDM founder Jennie Young, PhD, is not a dating coach or dating consultant, she is a writer and a professor of English and explores rhetoric, language and metaphor analysis and how it applies to dating in these times and happily shares it with anyone who is interested through her social media platforms.

  • S2 E6: Riding the Waves of Life

Cathy's cousin Tricia joins RBL today and shares her story of making her way back to Hawaii post-divorce to build a new life for herself. Hawaii was one of the many places her husband’s military career had taken their family and when it was time to move from there to the next location, she knew she would be back someday. After her marriage ended while stationed overseas 11 years ago, she moved back the states with her three boys and over several years took steps toward her dream to get herself back to

Hawaii, where she finally arrived in 2019, knowing no one. In her new life, she’s living as she chooses--catching waves, doing meaningful work, thriving in her relationship
and loving the people, the weather and the culture of the islands.

  • S2 E5: A Date with the “Seniors 94” Podcast

The episode in which we talk about sex with two guys we just met. Our guests Lance and Matt are the hosts of “Seniors 94” a podcast about “middle aged men and their feelings”. Lance is married to his high school sweetheart and Matt is separated from his wife and sorting all that out. It was a fun conversation for us (warning! not our usual PG content) and after sharing our individual

stories, we got into post-marriage sex & intimacy, and communicating with new partners about STDs and preferences. “Seniors 94” also featured a version
of our conversation on their recent podcast episode, so be sure to check them out on Spotify and Apple Podcasts.

  • S2 E3: An Act of Will

Our guest, Dan, has learned that making marriage and love

last is an “act of will”.  Dan met his wife 20 years ago on e-Harmony when they were both 58 and divorced. He fell in love with her and her artwork (and her artwork, incidentally, is how Samantha met Dan and convinced him to join us on RBL).  Despite him living in Alabama and she in Michigan, they worked it out and are still working it out today. Dan shares that, at 78, he’s grateful for the opportunity to reflect on his past relationships and is learning to understand how his expectations of marriage
and partnership perhaps did not serve him, his partners, or his relationships, well in the past. At this point in his life and his marriage he’s learned that a happy marriage doesn’t mean that you both have to be happy all the time and have identical thoughts and interests.

  • Ep 17: Is the Grass Greener Over Here? (or Over There?)

Guest Caroline joins us to discuss a listener question about

where to go on a first date and we get into over-planned dates, spontaneous dates, coffee dates, the friend zone, “cuffing season”, and the possibility of a misshapen eggplant.

We discuss the uncertainty we all are living with in the world right now, post-pandemic virtual burnout which has resulted in our disinterest in the dating app logarithms and our desire for seeking out  friendship and/or love with others IRL.
