This week marks the 31st anniversary of the Rwandan Genocide. Where over the course of 100 days almost 1 million people were killed in some of the most brutal and heart wrenching circumstances. The violence swept the country like a plague leaving very few areas untouched. But how did it get to this. In this first episode of our series on this tragic event, we look at the colonial roots of the violence. How European ideas on race and ethnicity would have a long lasting and fatal effect on the country and it's people.
