Session 1 - The Song of Solomon is one of the 66 books that is, it seems, shrouded in mystery. Is the song an erotic love-making song between two lovers? Does the song somehow picture Christ and the church? Both of these are common modern interpretations of these words of Solomon.
In this series, Dr. Randy White teaches how the song is “God’s love song for Israel.” Rejecting the literal, erotic interpretation as well as the allegorical church-as-bride interpretation, the series will show how Scripture insists that the remnant of Israel is the young maiden, with God as her King.
The Song of Solomon is a mystery to many and avoided by almost all. Some say that young people should not even be allowed to read it until they are 30 years old. Most preachers have never studied the book and even less taught it. Yet orthodox Jewish women read the Song of Solomon every Sabbath and rejoice in its beauty.
Is the Song of Solomon a simple love story? Is it an allegory? If it is an allegory, is it about Christ and the Church or about God’s love for Israel?
