Pastor Toni introduces our new series on Prayer and Fasting. We look today at Matthew 6:5-15 where Jesus teaches His disciples to pray.
What do you think Paul means when he says, “I want to know…participation in [Christ’s] sufferings, becoming like him in his death”(verse 10)? Why would this be something that you’d desire?
From Paul’s greeting in verse 1 to “all God’s holy people in Christ Jesus at Philippi,” Pastor Toni commented that we can see ourselves as sinners who sometimes get it right, or saints who sometimes get it wrong. Which way of thinking comes more easily to you? What difference does it make?
How would you put the prayer in verse 12 in your own words? And in what way would “numbering our days” bring us “a heart of wisdom”? [Recall that in the sermon Pastor Andrew filled out these ideas by taking us to the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 6.19–20.]
“The Psalms of trust express confidence in the presence of God amid circumstances that often seem to indicate the absence of God”

Joshua declared confidently: “You know with all your heart and soul that not one of all the good promises the Lord your God gave you has failed. Every promise has been fulfilled”. Can we declare this confidently too? (Joshua 23:14)
What kinds of change do you welcome, and what kinds do you resist?
For us who live on this side of the coming of Jesus, whichever way we look— back, forward, around— we see him, the pioneer and perfecter of faith! - Gayle Kent
