RyeGuys

Today Seth and I welcome our long-lost friend, Brad, to the conversation as we discuss Wes Anderson’s breakout family dramedy, The Royal Tenenbaums. It has an amazing cast led by Gene Hackman, Anjelica Huston and Gwenyth Paltrow. Join us as we discuss this forgotten gem.

Today we discuss the 1991 Kevin Costner film, Kevin Costner: Arrogant American. Just kidding, it’s Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Directed by Kevin Reynolds and starring Morgan Freeman, Alan Rickman, Christian Slater and Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio. This film was critically panned, but crushed it at the box office. This film has it all: Morgan Freeman as an action star, tree forts, pithy British humor, Sean Connery cameos and a secret family subplot you couldn’t care less about. Just like the witch character Mortianna, we love this movie warts and all.

Today we discuss the Coen Brothers debut film, Blood Simple. Starring Frances McDormand, Dan Hedaya and M. Emmet Walsh. If you haven’t heard of it, don’t worry — you’re in good company.

Today we discuss the 2006 Mel Gibson film, Apocalypto. This film has it all. Ancient societies, a notorious director, ominous omens, mother-in-law jokes, timely political messages, ritual human sacrifices, underwater births, and the most savage Jaguar kill you’ve ever seen. If you’ve seen it, you already know this. If you haven’t, I highly recommend watching before listening. “Beware the man who brings the jaguar. He’s with us now. Day will be like night. And the man Jaguar will lead you to your end.”

We discuss Nancy Meyers 2006 rom-com extravaganza, The Holiday. This is the date film that every girl loves and every guy lies about. “The Holiday? Haven’t heard of it. Definitely didn’t watch with my previous GF.” Meyers flexes her muscles with this meta film about Hollywood, namely by pulling in an all-star cast led by Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jude Law and Jack Black with cameos from the likes of Ed Burns and Dustin Hoffman. Stick around for the bonus session if you want to hear about which celebs Jake is most often compared to.

We discuss the muddled vision Joss Whedon and Zack Snyder known as Justice League. Originally meant to be the capstone on an epic Superman Triology and launch point for the larger DCEU...let’s just say it missed the mark. But hey — just like the vagrant’s sign at the beginning of the film, at least it tried!

Today we discuss the 2016 Zack Snyder Superhero Anguish Sandwich, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. If you think the title is a bit bloated buckle up! Seth and I discuss the many issues that plagued this film and our minds for watching it. Not safe for #SnyderCut fans.

Today we discuss the 2018 MCU Ryan Coogler film, Black Panther. Starring Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, Andy Serkis, Angela Bassett, Forest Whitaker and more.

Today we discuss the 2016 MCU blockbuster, Captain America: Civil War and I couldn’t be happier :)
