My first Anchor Podcast, I explain a bit of personal experiences I’ve had as an independent filmmaker and talk about what the REAL struggles of being a filmmaker in Los Angeles are.

In this episode, I talk about the classics. How my work theory of watching at least one movie a day, and how recently I’ve been revisiting some of the older movies, because I’m finding their ability to tell story far beyond what we seem in mainstream releases today. Enjoy!

I try background music for the first time, make this one short and sweet, and talk about the game and how the saying, “Its chess, not checkers” in terms of getting ahead in whatever business that may be. Make your moves!

In this episode I talk about if you’re having difficulty coming up with a story, try putting restrictions on yourself like limiting the number of characters, or having the entire story take place in only one location, things like that. I’ve found that if you provide yourself set boundaries, and do the work of outlining and detailing your story, that it forces your creativity. Enjoy!

In this episode I talk about the movie THE FLORIDA PROJECT, my admiration and thoughts about writer/director/producer/editor, Sean Baker and then hopefully encourage you, if you have aspirations of telling stories through a visual medium, to just start going out and doing it. You have the technology available, study the art of storytelling, and go hone your craft! Period.

Episode 33! My Jesus episode! 😊 I stick with that theme and talk about the movie The Passion of the Christ. I give my thoughts about the film as a whole, explain why I make the comparison to that movie and Citizen Kane, and talk about the sequel and how it looks like the ball’s finally rolling forward for that one. I stay specific with this episode and talk about the climax and final scene in the movie “The Last of the Mohicans.” I discuss how Michael Mann was able to build the story to have the A, B and C stories all climax not only at the same time, but the same event and space. It’s pretty remarkable to pull that off. Also, the incredible score by Randy Edelman and Trevor Jones allows for this type of scene to play out using only minimal to no dialogue. What are some of your favorite scenes out there and why?

I feel like I’ve been going macro with my topics lately and wanted to talk about specific movies or scenes in movies that I find to be incredible. After all, this is a podcast about making movies, right?? In this episode, I talk about the movie, “The Mist.” Specifically the ending. If you have not seen the movie, DO NOT listen to this episode. If you have, I give a quick recap of what I think about the ending and the movie as a whole, and also discuss the importance of an opening to a script, versus the ending of a film. Give it a listen!

I’m pretty sure I cut myself off at the end of this one. BUT, in this episode, I discuss the “auteur theory”. I site some examples of American Directors and how they might be deemed to be in this category, and then I completely debunk the theory, based on the many departments that are responsible for making a film, and how it’s impossible for a single director to have that much “authoritative” control over a picture.
