The Suburbs, 1964: Neddy Merrill is lounging poolside at a friend’s party, gin in hand, when a genius thought materializes in his mind. He’s going to swim home! His ensuing pilgrimage across the familiar neighborhood swimming pools- a symbol of everything right in his life- leads him back to his own house, where everything has gone so wrong.​
