Today, we’re talking about challenges. What are challenges, how they differ from excuses, and how you can push past your limits. Before we get started, make sure to subscribe to our podcast… etc
THE CHALLENGE
Many of us get stuck at this fork in the road. We have the option to take the safe road and ignore the challenge and move on with something else in life or we see this challenging side and work on that road knowing it’s going to be bumpy but also realizing the road at the end is very rewarding.
When you’re stuck at this fork ask yourself two questions — “Do I want to play it safe and ignore growth” or “Do I want to acknowledge that with growth come bumps in the road but I accept them?”
BUMPY ROAD = SOLUTION
Although the bumpy road will be much more difficult, it’s the most important step to take.
Challenges in life come to us for one reason only. Either to make you stronger or to stop your progress completely. We don’t get the things we want in life by staying the same person and staying in the same situation that we were in when we started.
From personal experience, I can say that although my achievements in life have been difficult and exhausting, they have been very rewarding and humbling.
A challenge I struggled a lot with is going to the gym. First off it’s in the morning — I am not a morning person. I will sleep in as long as I can before I will be late. Once I’m up and ready, I could be doing something that doesn’t exhaust me. But I’ve come to accept that what I want out of the gym takes work and dedication. What I get in return for that work and dedication comes in many forms. I have much more energy, I live a healthier life, and I feel good about completing something I am working hard for.
CHALLENGE VERSUS EXCUSE
In order for our challenges to make us stronger and see that reward at the end of the road, we need to take a detailed view of our excuses. A lot of the time what seems like a challenge is actually an EXCUSE made my our insecurities, fears, and believed limitations. If you’re saying your kids are preventing you from going to the gym, that’s not a challenge. It’s an excuse. If you’re saying your job doesn’t give you time to work on your business, that’s an excuse.
The challenge is acknowledging the road block, finding a solution, and making it a daily habit. If you want to work out but you don’t have a sitter for your kids, then challenge yourself to workout from home. Or challenge yourself to find a sitter and go to the gym. If your job is taking a lot of your personal time, preventing you from working your own business, then challenge yourself to create work/life balance. Or challenge yourself to wake up an hour earlier to take baby steps in your business.
