Odysseus talks to his wife, Penelope, in disguise as a beggar. They exchange stories of their sorrow and Penelope then offers Odysseus a foot bath as a sign of good will. The old maid who washes his feet notices a familiar scar and identifies the stranger as Odysseus, but she is told to keep it a secret from others.
