In this episode of the podcast we discuss and analyze what happens in book 23 of the epic. We also tell you about ourselves and discuss what the epic meant to us.
In this podcast episode, we explore the theme of vengeance as we see Odysseus coming back to Ithaca and killing the suitors in the middle of a hallway. We share personal stories, give summaries of the book, share historical backgrounds of characters, read the Book 22- Death in the Hall, and participate in Lectio Divina.
Penelope purposes a contest for the prize of the suitors marrying her. The challenge is to string the bow of Odysseus.
Odysseus talks to his wife, Penelope, in disguise as a beggar. They exchange stories of their sorrow and Penelope then offers Odysseus a foot bath as a sign of good will. The old maid who washes his feet notices a familiar scar and identifies the stranger as Odysseus, but she is told to keep it a secret from others.
In this episode we cover book 16 of the Odyssey. It begins with Odysseus returning home after battle and not wanting to reveal himself yet to his son who has never met him before. Throughout the book we see Odysseus and Telemachus relationship unfold.
Odysseus returns to Ithaca disguised as a beggar, Eumaeus saves him from being devoured by dogs, takes him in, and shelters him.
