โWe are not alone as immigrants. We can support each other by sharing our stories to find ourselves in migration, to be proud of who we are, to know that we are not the only ones to start from nothing, that before we became immigrants we had a whole life in our countryโย Lyla Carrillo Quan (van der Kaaden)
โLife Changes, situations change, and the best way to know who we are and where we want to go is to share our life experiencesโ Lyla Carrillo Quan (van der Kaaden)
โNow that I look back, I feel like I am blessed to have had the opportunity to be a stay-at-home mum to take care of my children. Many women do not have the opportunityโย ย
Bioย Lyla Carrillo Quan (van der Kaaden)
I am a researcher, event organizer, photographer, and inspirer. All of this forms the basis for my role as a cultural broker. I build bridges between cultures, show what similarities there are, and interpret the differences.ย
ย
ย I help, from a more formal role, organizations and companies to better connect with intercultural diversity in their communication, among other things. I help them to understand better and appreciate each other. My talents as an inventive, creative project manager, planner, and visionary come in handy in all this.
ย
ย My roots are in Latin America, Guatemala. In 2005, I settled permanently in the Netherlands. Through my experience and education, I know and feel the culture of Latin America. I also know what it is like to be a migrant. And at the same time, I experience the Netherlands more and more as my home.
ย
ย I help migrant women and minorities reach their potential and empower those who do not have a voice in society. So that they feel recognized and acknowledged; knowing that they are not alone in the complex process of re-rooting. I help them to develop it further. Author of โLatin Women of Almere,'' a book that highlights the importance of the role of migrant women in a multicultural society and raises awareness of the integration process they go through in the host country.
