Following the miracle of the loaves and fishes, Jesus reminded the crowd of followers not to labor for the food that perishes but rather for food that results in eternal life. Yes, typical of so many of us, the Jews asked for a sign from Jesus so that they might see it and believe. Jesus finally explained, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty." Yet, they did not believe. As we commemorate the sacrifice Jesus made for the sins of the world, let us renew our commitment to him, knowing that here there is no miracle more significant than that of salvation; for moving from darkness to light and the hope of eternal life.
