S2 E5 • The Italian Job (1969)

Listen Later

‘’You wouldn't hit a man with no trousers on, would you!?’’
Buckle up, because this episode is all about the 1969 classic The Italian Job…or more specifically, its iconic, funky, and slightly unhinged soundtrack. The lads will be taking you on a joyride through Quincy Jones’ score, complete with whimsical horns, swaggering basslines, and that sweet, sweet ‘60s groove that makes you want to plan a heist (or at least dramatically walk down the street in slow motion).
From the ‘hazy summers’ day’ opening of On Days Like These (which makes you feel like a sophisticated con artist sipping espresso in the Alps) to the absolute chaos of The Self-Preservation Society (where a full-on Cockney choir reminds you that crime can be fun), Dave and Tom break down the sounds of mini-coopers, high-stakes robbery, and possibly the best traffic jam in cinematic history.
Expect dramatic (crap) reenactments of instrumental solos, terrible attempts at Cockney accents, (yes, Sir Michael Caine!) and a deep dive into why Quincy Jones’ music makes grand theft auto seem so... stylish.
So grab your bowler hat, practice your best Michael Caine impression, and join us for a Club biscuit, Ronseal-fueled caper!
