Parents can agree on a workable arrangement for custody and parenting time. The court will often go along with it and support it. Agreeing on parenting time and child support does not nullify child support. Yes, it is based on overnights with both mom and dad. It is also based on what mom and dad make. If one is making more money than the other, the one making less gets the support. There can be a time child support there will not be provided. This is if both parents make the same amount of money and have exactly the same overnights. What are the odds of that happening? The parents have the same jobs, the same shift, and make the same money. Even in this scenario, if the parent is not exercising 50/50 custody, this can change child support. You still need to inform the court of the reality of your current situation.
